This weekend was a special one, all because my lovely Rita (a colleague from Poke) came to visit me!! It had been far too long and I couldn’t wait to catch up with my favourite Brazilian!!
We first caught up on Friday, she told me all about Poke and what happened after I left. She also talked about her cookery course and trip to Thailand, which I was very, very jealous of.
Her husband Ale, then came to join us and we went for dinner down a wee lane in Melbourne’s CBD. The had a share plate filled with goodies and I had seafood linguini. We talked the whole night, and then headed home.
The next day I took Ale and Rita to Brighton Beach, and it was bloody FREEZING! Nevertheless, we powered through and walked along the beach, getting loads of photos with the beach huts:
We talked and ate once more, then it was time to say goodbye again. I was given the tightest cuddle as this would be the last time seeing Rita in Australia. We exchanged a lot of sentimental words and made a promise to reunite in Brazil as soon as possible. She was my rock in Sydney and I am so happy to have met her!
Sunday then came around and market fever was still high, this time a trip to Queen Victoria Markets with Jamie was on the cards. These markets were huge! Literally anything you could think of was being sold there. It was also mega crazy and a tad too much for me, but I still loved it. We didn’t have much money to burn so only purchased if a deal was that good. Jamie bought 30 eggs for $5 and I got a bunch of wild mushrooms for $2.
We’d completed every section of the market and stopped off for a coffee to refuel. I thought the plan was to head home after but instead we went to meet Jamie’s friends in a pub. I was so bloody nervous at first but a few happy hour cocktails sorted that out! The four of us then went back to Jamie’s friends for dinner. We were all backpackers so a quick wee fry up was the dinner of choice and Jamie managed to smoke out the whole apartment cooking it.
After dinner we drank much more and then it was time to leave. We were all hammered, it was brilliant. I said goodbye to my new friends and Jamie and I navigated our way home. We got to Luna park and he insisted on a photo shoot in front of the iconic face, he even made some friends too:
It was a great weekend, I just wish I had more money to spend on the fancy food on offer!!
